    I’m a multidisciplinary artist, my work ranging from installations, animations to immersive storytelling, exploring themes of race, ethnicity and feminist identity. My projects often have the aim of shining spotlights on marginalised communities.     Chloe Monks is a contemporary ceramic artist living and working in Bristol who studied Ceramics at Cardiff School of Art and Design before completing an MA in Ceramics & Glass at the Royal College of Art in 2020. Chloe was supported by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) enabling her to study at the RCA and delve deeper into investigating material possibilities within ceramics.

    During total isolation, in lockdown, I painted over a 164 artworks up to date. I also took up meditation which allowed my imagination to flow again. It was cathartic and eased the trauma from what was happening in the outside world. Life is returning back to what was before, but with a greater sense of appreciating family and friends, united.

    I work with dried flora (flowers, grasses, leaves, twigs, berries and more) weaving, stitching and sticking on tulle fabric within wooden frames to create three-dimensional pieces. I take my inspiration (and my materials) from the natural world around me - what I see from my window, in my garden, on dog walks and beyond.     I create sculptural lights using repurposed materials and everyday objects. My latest projects are a collaboration between my brother and me. The lights we craft together originate from ordinary items that we assemble into articulated shapes, which we then enhance with carefully selected paper and fabric coverings, along with a bespoke light source, resulting in beautiful, tactile lights.
