OPEN call for ARTISTs and WRITERS focusing on TEXTILE ART
Deadline: 02/05/2025Jenna Fox
If you work with textiles or have a view on making and how textiles can link to memory, culture and creativity then we want to hear from you!
We invite artists and writers to submit work exploring the theme of TEXTILES.
This open call seeks creative interpretations that push beyond the literal and embrace the complexity, meaning, and associations of textiles as a medium.
Themes to Consider:
- The use of textiles as a material - how do you use textiles in your creative practice, and how do you push the medium to its limits?
- What processes do you use to create textile art - is the process more important than the material, and how do you transform it into your finished work?
- Emotional and symbolic weight - What do the textiles you use signify? Is there an emotional connection to the fabrics and how does your work play with this?
- Metaphors of illumination and obscurity - What can we learn from the fabrics you use?
- History and context - Do the textiles you use have significance for their history, culture and political connections?
Who Can Submit?
This call is open to artists across all visual media (painting, photography, sculpture, digital art, etc.) and writers working in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid forms.
We encourage experimental, boundary-pushing work that brings fresh perspectives to the theme.
Submission Guidelines:
- Artists: Submit up to 3 high-quality images of your work (JPEG or PNG) with a short description of the context of the work (max 300 words). We will not accept your submission if this is not included. (If you are selected, we might ask you for high-resolution images)
- Your INSTAGRAM tag. We cannot accept submissions without this.
- Writers: Submit up to 1,500 words of prose or 3 poems ( Word or Pages format only).
- All submissions should include a brief bio (100 words max).
- Film links via YouTube or Vimeo only. Please include a still image of your video
DEADLINE 2nd May 2025
