Paid opportunity for emerging performance artists to create and perform work! Curator Francesca Fryer and artist Aaron Jolley have collaborated to produce 'Another Day', a programme of events centred around an exhibition of Jolley's paintings. We're looking to commission three performance artists to make and perform works at a special event, reimagining and responding to the themes of the exhibition.

Another Day is a collaborative project between curator Francesca Fryer and artist Aaron Jolley, exploring how the everyday can be perceived and engaged with through processes of care and facilitation.

This project will culminate in an exhibition of Jolley's paintings at Elevator Studios in Liverpool in May 2025.

Aaron’s work is inspired by his observations of the everyday- rooftops, reflections in windows, and the quiet intimacy of spaces we inhabit.

His paintings in this exhibition use domestic iconography to explore feelings of nostalgia, melancholy, optimisum and the passing of time.

Through these universal experiences, the exhibition aims to create an environment where everyone, regardless of background or familiarity with contemporary art, can feel comfortable and engaged, and demonstrate how creativity can emerge from the mundane, offering a fresh perspective on art's role in community life.

The exhibition will be complemented by events designed to foster connection, discussion, and create a welcoming space for community engagement.

These will aim to break down barriers often associated with galleries, making the art experience more accessible.

These activities include 'Another Day, A Second Glance', an event designed to allow for feedback and reinterpretation of ideas from the exhibition while showcasing emerging performance art.

We are looking for three artists to develop short performance pieces in response to the project, to perform at an evening of art and music on Wednesday 21 st May at Arts Bar Baltic.

The chosen artists will be commissioned 4 hours for the creation and performance of the piece, in according with Artists Union England Rates of Pay (£26.55 p/hr).

They will additionally each be given a £50 budget for any materials or research necessary to the work.

Each performance piece can be up to 10 minutes in duration (can also be less than this), and respond to one of the following prompts:

Themes of the Exhibition:

The everyday, nostalgia, melancholy, rebirth, daily rituals, fleeting moments.

The Content of the Exhibition:

The iconography includes windows, ornaments, flowers, household objects and street scenes. Maybe something relates or resonates with you in certain way?

Community Engagement:

Could your performance be responding to your own experience of creativeness in your community?

Work need not be completely new - it could be that you already have a performance that you think would fit well with this project and you would like to perform again.

Likewise, you may have been wanting to try out an idea and this could be a perfect opportunity for it. Just let us know, we’re open to (mostly) anything.

Please don’t hesitate to contact if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
